Activities

The Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative in the Medical Device Sector engages in three primary activities:

Setting Best Practices

This initiative identifies, aligns, and endorses the highest standard ethical business practices across all member economies. This includes drafting key documents such as the Kuala Lumpur Principles, Nanjing Declaration, and APEC Guidance for Ethical Third Party Intermediary Relationships in the Medical Device Sector.

Capacity Building

The Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative facilitates the adoption and implementation of the highest standard ethical business practices by all industry and non-industry actors relevant to the medical device sector, coordinating opportunities between and within member economies. This includes developing tools to serve the Initiative’s vast network of distributors via the Distributor Compliance Capacity Building Portal.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The Initiative also sets indicators to quantify progress in code adoption and implementation across all member economies and monitors and evaluates progress made in the region on an annual basis. Such Initiative Reports include the 2019 Report on Code of Ethics Implementation by APEC Medical Device Industry Associations.
